Choose fileWhat Actually Gets Amazon Main Images Suppressed
Amazon splits every listing into one main image and up to eight secondary slots, and it only enforces the strict rules on the main slot. The main image must show the product alone on pure white with no props, text, or packaging. Secondary slots are where lifestyle scenes, size references, and infographics belong. Most suppressions happen because a main image quietly breaks one of three measurable rules: background color, resolution, or frame fill.
Why near-white still fails
Amazon checks background pixels programmatically, so a studio backdrop that photographs as RGB(250, 250, 248) reads as non-compliant even though it looks white on screen. Compression can also leave a faint halo of near-white pixels around the subject edge. Exporting as a flattened JPG against an exact 255, 255, 255 canvas, which is what the Amazon preset on this page does, removes both failure modes.
The zoom math behind the 1000 px minimum
Zoom on the product page activates when the longest side is at least 1000 px, but at that size a shopper zooming to 2x is looking at interpolated pixels. A 2000 px export gives the zoom window real detail like stitching, texture, and labels, which is why Amazon recommends it. Upload the largest clean source you have; downscaling later always beats upscaling.
If a listing gets suppressed
Suppressed listings drop out of search but stay visible in Seller Central under Manage Inventory, usually with a listing quality alert naming the failed check. Replace the main image with a compliant export, and the listing normally returns after the next review pass. Keep the original photo so you can re-export rather than re-edit a compressed copy.
Square padding without cropping the product
Amazon displays main images in a square window. If your photo is portrait or landscape, padding it to a white square preserves the full product while meeting the display format. Keep the product at 85 percent of the frame after padding: measure against the longer side, not the original crop.
Verify the final file before upload: open the exported JPG, sample the background color with any picker, and confirm 255, 255, 255. That thirty second check is cheaper than a suppression cycle.

How to Prepare Your Photos
Start from your sharpest source photo
Pick a photo that is at least 1000 px on the longest side, ideally 2000 px or more so the Amazon zoom feature has real detail to show. Phone photos work if they are in focus.
Let the Amazon preset do the compliance work
The uploader on this page removes the background, sets an exact RGB(255, 255, 255) white canvas, pads the image to a square, and preselects JPG export, which matches the main image rules.
Verify white, then replace the main image
Sample the background with a color picker to confirm pure white, then upload the JPG as the main image in Seller Central and check the listing once Amazon finishes processing it.
